Our Homespun Story

Our seventh Snap Shot Series competition has led to another brilliant collection of iconic tees.

The Snap Shot Series project has always been about celebrating the best of summer, and this year’s Homespun range also boasts the best of Australian made product.

COTTON GROWN IN MACQUARIE VALLEY, NSW

There’s no place like home, especially when it comes to the quality of our fabric. The life of our Homespun range began in the verdant cotton fields of Macquarie Valley near the township of Warren…

DESIGNED IN SOUTH YARRA, VIC

Meanwhile, our Product team was working with the 10 winning images, designing unique Tees at our Head Office in South Yarra.

Our judging panel, Nathan Jolliffe, Carlotta Moye, Andrew Henderson and Clint Curtis deliberated entries to ensure the winning images spoke to the Australian summer and could be used to create an aesthetic design.

When the Tee concepts were developed, careful consideration was taken to achieve designs that enhanced the winning imagery, whilst standing apart from the rest of the menswear range.

Clint Curtis, our Menswear Design Manager explains, “Each Tee needed its own reason for being part of the collection.”

KNITTED IN MELTON, VIC

Once the cotton was spun, the team at ABMT Textiles Melbourne knitted and dyed the yarn into quality jersey ready for manufacturing.

Since 1998, ABMT Textiles Melbourne has been dedicated to creating premium products with minimal environmental impact. From responsible cotton farming to cleaner manufacturing, their social and environmental conscious runs through every aspect of their practice.

To date, ABMT Textiles Melbourne is the only textile plant in the country recycling over 85% of wastewater from spent reactive dye-baths.

MANUFACTURED IN ST. PETERS, NSW

With the fabric ready, the cotton jersey was then made into Tees at OCC Apparel.

Originally a cotton growing business in 2004, founders, Andrew Quinn and Nick Barclay struggled to find manufacturers that produced quality cut tees to complement their premium cotton. So in 2007, they started making their own tees to do just that.

As a small business of 20 employees, Andrew and Nick take pride in the constant development of OCC Apparel (turning over 10 000 tees a week!). It’s the value and care for their team and company that results in a quality of tees you can’t get anywhere else in the world.

SCREEN PRINTED IN ABBOTSFORD, VIC

Next up, the blank tees arrived at Machine Screen Printers to print the 10 winning designs.

Machine Screen Printers was the brainchild of Bec and Jochen Orr in 1999. Jochen was a screen printer by trade and their passion for the Australian fashion and music industry inspired them to start printing apparel. Their success derives from understanding their market and their personal investment in each client’s needs.

CAMPAIGN SHOT IN ROTTNEST ISLAND, WA

To shoot the campaign, our creative team travelled to where Jeanswest first began 43 years ago, Western Australia.

It was clear from our Snap Shot Series competition that many Australians define summer with the sun, surf and sand of our beautiful coastlines. Rottnest Island was the landscape of choice to capture our Homespun collection, its stunning beach landscape perfectly identifying an Australian summer.

Our crew of 12 (from Sydney, Melbourne & Perth) were on the island for 2 days to capture not only the Snap Shot Series imagery, but also the entire December campaign. We hope you agree the results are stunning.

” I did not know that!”

Thank you for the effort you’ve put into explaining the full production story and Australian Made ethos of your product’s path from the Australian soil and Sun right through to the finished product complete with an Australian swing tag.

I enjoyed the story and I admire the vision.

    I’d better get buying then!
