Style Update: Jeans for Curvy Women

curvy jeans

More and more brands are starting to wrap their heads – and their clothes – around women of all shapes and sizes. But even though there is more choice out there for curvy women, sometimes there isn’t enough guidance on just what fits and what is available that is on trend.

At Jeanswest we embrace the curve, so we’re sharing our favourite picks and tips for dressing the most common shapes this season that deserves the best!

We embrace your curves

If there’s one thing that never goes out of style, it’s curves. You’re a head turner by nature, but if you’ve been blessed with a generous derriere, it might be frustrating sometimes to find that perfect pair of jeans to fit and flatter your killer curves.

What’s hot in curve jeans this season?

Whether you’re an hourglass or a pear, you should look for jeans that have a bit of room in the backside but come in at the waist. A few brands these days will have specific styles designed for the hourglass or pear shape, and at Jeanswest our Curve Embracer range is a great example.

Curve Trend # 1: Black Denim

Style – If you’ve got a well-endowed behind, you’re probably also going to want to steer clear of anything with a low rise (the measure from the top of the waistband down to the bottom of the crotch seam), as this might lead to some unwelcome exposure. A mid-to-high rise will also have the effect of maximising the length of your legs and Skinny & Super Skinny styles still reign supreme!

Fabrication – A good pair of curve-flattering jeans will usually be made from a fabric with a bit more give than pure denim – usually something like lycra or elastane. This will ensure that your jeans fit snug while still enhancing your shape. Our core denim jeans use a new stretch denim fabrication:

Colour – as stated! Our core range is available in our new wash and the winter denim colour – Absolute Black.

Curve Trend # 2: Indigo Denim + Knitwear

Find yourself too bubbly to pair black on black this season? There is a stunning palette of indigos this winter that pair back beautifully with textural, marled knits in pullovers, wraps, scarves and cardigans. Here’s a bit of inspo!

Pair lightly faded skinny jeans such as the Cassidy Curve Embracer Skinny 7/8 Jeans with knitwear in icy hues and finish with scarves that feature bold pop colours, softened by transparencies in the fabric. It is a crisp, feminine style this A/W.

Soft neutrals with textural techniques from fine pullovers to rugged oversized cable knits look great paired in contrast with the clean styling and smooth silhouettes of deep indigo jeans, our pick is the Viv Curve Embracer Skinny 7/8 Jeans. Get cosy, textural and creative with our knitwear here.

Tips for embracing your curves

  • Give the illusion of longer legs with a pair of high-heeled shoes. Court shoes or pumps are flattering but don’t forget to also consider boots, platforms and wedges to keep things varied.
  • Wear tops that emphasise your narrow waist, e.g. wrap-style tops, fitted shirts that drape just enough to skim the form and fitted jackets.
Curve Trend Alert – Ponte jackets are fabricated with stretch fabric that smoothens the silhouette, making them ideal for a variety of shapes for an easy and flattering fit. Try our Geri jacket, with stylish trim details and Ponte fabrication. See other fitted open front Ponte jackets and blazers here.

  • Avoid pants with too much detailing around the hips or rear as this will give the appearance of added bulk and will unbalance your natural curves.
  • Stick with simple colours and patterns to emphasise your curves without adding unnecessary bulk.
  • Take your fashion cues from curvy style icons like Scarlett Johansson, Beyonce, Christina Hendricks or Kate Winslet.
