With the exciting news of a baby on the way, we caught up with the stunning Beck Stevens, stylist and Channel 7 Sydney Weekender host, to talk all things Maternity fashion. Read on as Beck shares her Maternity must-haves, and her favourite pieces from our latest summer collection.
How have you stayed true to your personal style while being pregnant?
I think at the beginning it was difficult as I had to try and ‘hide’ my little bump and not look like I’d just eaten a few burgers hehe. As I got over the 12 week mark however, it was great – I just wore my usual wardrobe and showed off my new figure wearing tight dresses. Now that I’m 6 months pregnant overalls and oversized shirts are my best friend! I’m quite feminine in my style, so florals and dresses are definitely a staple part of my wardrobe.
What pieces are you finding you wear the most, and why?
As it’s getting warmer here in Sydney I’m living in my denim maternity shorts and floaty tops. I find the fabric has to be a natural fibre like linen or cotton as they breathe so well, and I adore the off-the-shoulder looks in pastel styles Jeanswest have at the moment… they sit so comfortably on my bump!
What’s one maternity item in your wardrobe you can’t live without?
My new Maternity skinny jeans have saved me as I was feeling quite disheartened when I reached the 4 month mark as none of my jeans fit me, I felt frumpy and I figured I would have to stop wearing jeans!! My Jeanswest Maternity skinny jeans are perfect – they have an elasticised waist which supports my bump and accommodates my growing belly. They’ll grow with my bump so I won’t have to invest in any other jeans throughout my pregnancy, which is great for the bank balance haha! I love that I can wear them with an oversized tee and ballet flats for a casual look or dress them up with a wedge and dressy top.
What are your favourite pieces from our summer collection, and how will you be styling them?
I love everything off-the-shoulder, and the new linen-blend tops pair perfectly with my JW skinnies! I am living in flat shoes at the moment, so I’ll style this look with ballet flats or plain white sneakers and add some fun accessories to complete the look!
Do you have a maternity style tip for us?
I am loving going through my pre-pregnancy wardrobe for unexpected bump friendly pieces, like a waisted dress or elasticised skirts that I can still wear with a growing bump. I’m all about practicality so I love pairing dresses with sneakers. I think I have sneakers in every colour! And finally, as our bodies change during pregnancy, it’s important we remember to embrace these changes and to feel grateful for the ability to carry a child which is one of the most precious gifts life has to offer.
