A great pair of jeans can become your best friend. Someone you can develop a deep long lasting relationship with.  The longer you wear them the closer you become. Over time they’ll mold and shape to your body and create an individual look that is only yours.  But, like any good relationship, you need to treat them with the love and respect they deserve for it to be a mutually satisfying one. Here’s a few tips on how to best love your jeans and keep them looking tops.

Everyday wash & care

  • Always turn your jeans inside-out before washing them or you might get unwanted crinkles from the machine.
  • Cold wash separately.
  • Use a mild detergent in a cold wash separately. Don’t pour the detergent directly onto the denim -  it’s best to dissolve it first.
  • Never use bleach unless you want to revive the acid wash look! (Which is very on-trend at the moment so it could be a good look but not if its not the one you're after on your long-time fave jeans!)
  • Never soak your jeans because it will cause the indigo dye to run. This will make our jeans fade faster than they should.
  • Remove them from the wash and turn them right side out.  Shake them out flat and smooth them out with your hands to get rid of unwanted creases.
  • Hang them in the shade to dry so the sun doesn’t fade them.
  • Don’t tumble dry. They’ll shrink by at least by one size.
  • If you prefer that lived-in look don’t iron them. Like to have them looking sharp and crisp? Use plenty of steam when ironing.

For fashionista’s looking for a BFF denim relationship

Here’s some extra special tips if you want to put a little bit of extra effort into maintaining your denim relationships to maintain their original look and integrity.

The main tip is to wash jeans less. Over-washing them can cause them to shrink and lose its strength and durability very quickly.

NO WASH STRATEGY #1:

Hang your jeans in the bathroom when you have a shower.  The steam will help to drop out any unwanted creases and ‘freshen’ them up.

NO WASH STRATEGY #2:

Put your jeans into a plastic shopping bag in the freezer over night!  Sounds strange but it will help keep your jeans smelling fresh by killing off any bacteria.  (Note: putting them in the freezer or in the shower won’t actually clean your jeans of any stains or dirt.)
